Getting Around

The island is bigger than most people think – just under 113 km (approx 70 miles) from end to end. There are main roads giving access across the bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh (on the mainland) to the principal island communities of Broadford, Dunvegan and Portree, along with single track roads to the smaller scattered communities. Public transport is limited so to really get out and about and explore the island to the full, you are best having access to a car.

For information on getting out and about visit the local Visitor Information Centre in Portree or contact Visit Scotland. They can offer information on public transport, cycle hire, local taxis, boat trips and tours as well as the wonderful things to see and do when you are here.
